Independence & stability

Metronomia has been privately held and has grown organically since 1990, with no financial investor and no corporate group behind us. The people deciding where the business invests are the ones who carry the consequences, so we can plan on the timescale clinical development actually runs on.

A partner for the long run

Ownership in the CRO industry changes frequently, so it is reasonable to ask who owns the company supporting your study. Metronomia has remained privately owned since 1990, with long-term continuity across our standards, leadership and teams. That stability means you can rely on the same way of working, the same level of commitment and a long-term view of the partnership.

Why our commitments hold

When we commit a team, a platform or capacity to a programme, that commitment is made by the people who own the company. It is not subject to a new owner’s integration plan or a portfolio review, which is why sponsors can plan multi-year programmes with us on the assumption that what we agree now still stands in three years.

Where it makes the biggest difference

In long development programmes and studies we take over mid-flight, continuity keeps knowledge with the team, reduces disruption and helps ensure the work is carried through properly from one stage to the next.

The practical difference is the time horizon

We are not working to a holding period or an exit date, so we can invest in people and technology on the timescale clinical development actually runs on, and we can take a view of a client relationship that extends well beyond the study in front of us. Not every decision has to pay back in the quarter it is made.

Ownership that stays close to the business

Metronomia is held through a holding company owned by three private shareholders. Two founded the company in 1990 and continue to take part in its strategic decisions as shareholders; the third joined as managing director in 2022 and runs the business day to day. Strategic direction, major investments and the long-term course of the company are decided by that group, not by a financial investor and not by a parent organisation with its own agenda.

What this means for your study

The same people, from set-up to lock

With 95% staff retention, the statistician who writes your SAP and the data manager who builds your database are likely to still be there at database lock. That means less handover, less re-learning and more knowledge retained within the study.

Earlier visibility when something shifts

Our teams stay close to the data and the day-to-day work, so changes are easier to spot and raise early. Experience across studies helps us recognise when something needs attention before it becomes harder to resolve.

Investment that keeps moving forward

Because we remain privately owned, we can keep reinvesting in the technology, validation and training behind our delivery. Those investments build over time rather than being reset by ownership changes or integration cycles.

Where we choose to invest

Independence is not a slogan for us — it is how the company has been run since 1990, and it is what gives us room to invest where it strengthens the work. That means building our own tools where they add something the established platforms do not, developing practical AI-assisted workflows, and getting more out of the systems our teams already work in every day. What we build is shaped around real study needs rather than an external product roadmap.

  • Alethia, our purpose-built clinical data platform
  • AI-assisted workflows running in live studies within governed, access-controlled environments
  • In-house tools supporting study design, SDTM, analytics and medical writing
  • ISO 27001-certified information security, updated to the latest standard in 2025

Our commitment to independent ownership

We intend to remain privately owned and grow on our own terms, as we have since 1990. That keeps decisions close to the business, protects the continuity behind our work and gives us the freedom to invest for the long term.

Continuity is not something we put in a pitch. It is what our ownership makes possible.
